Media conglomerate BSkyB is widely expected to announce the creation of 500 call centre jobs at Stockport on Friday.
It is thought that the office, based at the newly-built St Peter’s Square, will manage demand for the company’s TV and broadband arms.
The broadcaster said at the beginning of last year that it intended to employ 1,000 people in response to expected demand for its high-definition TV business.
BSkyB defied the odds and posted a 10% increase in annual revenue to £2.9 billion in January, with operating profit jumping 4% to £401 million.
The results promoted a period of expansion by the firm at a time when other broadcasters were tightening the purse strings.
Sky counts around 9.7 million households as customers, with bosses hoping to top the ten million mark in the coming months.
