Reports that Cleveland Police’s 999 calls may be outsourced to a call centre in India are “inaccurate”, the chief constable said.
Sean Price said the force’s control room operations would remain in the area at its police headquarters and also denied claims that callers would be put on hold when reporting emergencies.
Mr Price said: “It has come to my attention that there has been some inaccurate reporting in the media in relation to the current outsourcing project and speculation that 999 calls may be outsourced abroad and that people will be placed on hold while reporting emergency incidents.
“I would like to reassure everyone that this is absolutely not the case.”
