BA call centre raided by police

A British Airways Flyline call centre in Bremen, Germany, has been raided by police after some of the 300 telesales staff were suspected of using passengers` credit card and bank details.

Investigators said they uncovered “significant fraudulent activity” during the raid on December 9.

Suspicions had been raised after a number of victims reported their accounts had been accessed shortly after making a booking with the airline.

One team leader at the centre, who has been sacked by BA, has been arrested by German police and is facing criminal charges.

Another German employee has also been suspended and company sources allege that an employee had confessed to passing on passengers’ details. These would later have been used to produce cloned credit cards and police said that anyone who had made a BA flight booking through a telesales centre in the last 12 months could be at risk.

Staff admitted copying credit card details that had been supplied over the telephone but other stings are reported to have involved refunds, re-issued tickets and frequent flyer accounts.
