
Our approach to leadership training and coaching
When we work with you, typically, we will go through the following stages:
Diagnostic
First we help you get an accurate picture of your leadership capability to determine where to focus our efforts in further developing your leaders. We conduct a Leadership Needs Analysis to help you determine where you are now, where you need to be and what you need to do to get there.
To achieve this, we use a range of approaches including:
- 360 degree feedback surveys before, during and after a programme to assess individual leader, team and leadership ‘bench strength’
- Bespoke ‘pulse’ surveys to understand the level of employee and management engagement
- Analysis of existing management information; business performance figures, retention, promotion figures and data from engagement surveys
- Focus groups and interviews to further understand the hard data
- Observation of leaders in the live environment to see leadership in practice
This will enable us to understand where leadership is inherently strong and where further development is required. It enables us to design a truly bespoke Leadership Change Programme.
With our perceptive, pragmatic and thorough approach we unearth underlying issues and determine what it will take to make the biggest impact on your leaders and culture. It will create a benchmark from which we can track progress and evaluate the impact of the work on your leadership capability to drive sustained performance.
Design and delivery of bespoke leadership and management programmes
In order to create sustainable change in your leaders and leadership, we will create a bespoke programme with you, whether it’s working with your board, senior managers or emerging leaders.

Sustaining the change and consolidating the learning
From the moment we start working with you, we focus on how you will sustain the changes made from the work we do together. We believe that leadership transformation is a journey and does not result from a single intervention. We also understand that changes in the organisational structure or processes often need to occur to make the changes stick.
To embed and sustain learning, we support you and your leaders with activities such as webinars, master classes, coaching, observation and feedback, knowledge portals and online communities. We also work with you in ‘shadow consulting’, providing behind the scenes support to the organisation as you work to truly embed the changes.
Evaluation of performance improvement
At Blue Sky, we seek to measure the success of all our work with clients. At the outset, we agree on what success looks like and work hand-in-hand with you to achieve those goals.
We seek evidence that the programme has had an impact at an individual and organisational level and use objective and subjective, quantitative and qualitative measurements of progress which include:
- Post-programme analysis of the same KPIs and management information we used in the diagnostic
- Surveys and post programme impact questionnaires
- Identifying the cost of the work as well as the benefits to establish ROI
- Running follow-up focus groups, interviews
- Developing case studies of success stories for spreading and sustaining the change
